Just over a week ago, having finally settled into my new home and set up my first shrine, I turned out the lights, lit a candle, and asked if any Name might allow me to know Them, so that I could honor Them with a song. It took a few minutes, but suddenly I realized that my eyes were drawn to the shadows cast by the candle against the wall, and then utterly entranced by the blue depths at the core of the flame itself. The feeling of the presence that surrounded me shortly thereafter was so vast, so endless, that I hardly knew what to make of Her, so accustomed am I now to Set’s in-the-moment existence as a very distinct individual! Yet slowly I wrapped my head around Her as best I could, and while this little song, or perhaps lullaby, can’t touch the half of who and what She seemed to be, I hope that it is to Her liking.

lyrics
I met You as the infinite
depths of starry night,
Yet at once, azure eternity
At the heart of a candle’s light.
Nut, Mother,
Consume the sun to bid it rise,
But when shadows blanket all the world
Be my guide, be my guide.
I ask You for protection
from the dreams that fear designs
And I ask for Your affection,
when loneliness abides.
Nut, Mother,
I hear Your voice at eventide
In the gentle whisper of the wind,
“Close your eyes, my child, close your eyes.”
O Lady of the endless
reaches of the sky
The lives which pass us slowly,
Are a blink of Your twinkling eye.
Nut, Mother
I shall not be afraid to die,
When I cross the veil and travel West,
To Your arms, my lady, I will fly.
